Dharmaraja Ratha is a tri-tala (three story) structure. It is square at the ground level.The first storey and second storey are connected by stairs carved into the stone.Above that It turns into octagonal with an octagonal shikhara .

The octagonal shikhara puts the ratha in the category of the Dravidian vimanas. The ratha faces west, and a small projecting mukha-mandapa is provided as the main entrance.

The sanctum and circumambulatory path ,is supported on two pillars and two pilasters,have seated-lion bases,above the pillars, runs a cornice . This has chaitya-arches with peeping human faces. Above the cornice is a regular arrangement of mini shrines.

Bhima Ratha is the most massive of the five rathas has a roof resembling a vaulted barrel.

Its vimana is intricately carved on both sides of the roof. The cornice has seven pairs of kudus .

Unlike the other rathas, the temple has no inscriptions or sculptures.The ratha has an embedded square plan up to the entablature and integrates the griva and shikara in the form of a circle. Its long side has four round pillars and two rounded pilasters, with the base designed as seated lions. The north and south sides each have two square, massive pillars.
